Clear Skin

The first thing I want to talk about is skin care, because our skin is one of the first things that people notice about us. If we have skin problems it can be very embarrassing and it can sometimes lower ones self-esteem.

I don't claim to have had the worst skin in the world but I was prone to pimples. I got them frequently and I still can get them if I don't stick to my skin regime. I thought after puberty pimples went away but many of us know that that is not true. The worst thing about my acne was that it left scarring on my face. I can still remember having a ton of stubborn pimples that just wouldn't go away when I went on a trip to Alaska or being in my friends wedding a few years back with several pimples and trying to cover them with foundation. pic is from yourdoctor.com

It has been said for quite sometime now that if you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day your skin will stay clear. I can't testify whether that is true or not, because sometimes I drink a lot of water and sometimes I don't. I do think that drinking water is good for you but I am not sure if it really affects skin acne. I watched an Oprah Show where Doctor Oz said that it doesn't keep you from getting acne.

About 7 or 8 years ago I was temping at a Doctor's office, my skin must have been really bad, because one of the Doctors pulled me aside and told me I needed to get some acne medication and asked me if I wanted them to write me a prescription for some. At the time I wasn't able to afford some expensive acne medication so I asked her what I could buy over the counter. She suggested anything with salicylic acid in it. I ended up purchasing some Nuetrogena products. They helped some but I still had acne. A couple of years ago I started using Neutrogena Visibly Even foaming cleanser and the moisturizer. I really like it and I think it keeps my skin nice but the best thing to help me has been vitamins! I know some would disagree, but for me I have been taking vitamins for the last year regularly and what a difference in my skin! I love it! I take a multi vitamin for women by New Chapter and a Inner Beauty vitamin by them. This brand is a little pricey but it works. These vitamins actually come from a food source so they are supposed to be better assimilated by your body. I don't sell these vitamins but I am sure you can find them on-line, I purchase them at my local health food store called Frazier Farms.

Another thing that has helped my skin has been Aloe Vera! I buy the Aloe Vera juice to take internally and I by the 99% pure topical gel to put on my face. It has really helped with the little acne scars I used to have. Yes I said use to! In fact people now tell me how nice and smooth my skin looks, its amazing! The combination of these things has made my skin look great. I wash my face twice a day with the Neutrogena Visibly Even and in the morning I put on the moisturizer that goes with it and then at night I wash my face again with it and I follow it by putting the Aloe Vera gel on my face. The brand I use is Lily of the desert, also bought at my local Frazier Farms Grocery store. I take my vitamins every day along with about two ounces of aloe juice internally.

I hope that you find this information helpful. I am not a Doctor and I don't sell any of these products of course skin conditions vary and you have to be aware of what you might be allergic to. You can always test a small area of your skin, like the inside of your elbow to see if you would be allergic to any of these topical solutions and as we are always told, "check with your Doctor before taking any type of supplements or medications".

The Begining

Today is finally the day that start this blog! I have wanted to start a blog on the topic of beauty for sometime now. I have another blog where I discuss travel. Girltakestrip.blogspot.com, but I find that although I love to travel I have not made myself post often, even though I have taken many trips. Hopefully I will get back to that soon.

But as for now I want to focus on the subject of beauty, because I find that it is something that probably like you, is on my mind daily. From the moment we wake and look into the mirror we may start to think is the way i look acceptable? Is my skin clear enough, teeth white enough, hair shiny or long enough? Don't even get me started on what should I wear. There are days when I have a function to go to and I don't even want to go because I don't feel like I have something nice enough or new enough to wear.

For most of my life I was not concerned with this topic. It's not that I didn't want to be considered beautiful, it was just that it was not something my mother ever emphasized. So I was the typical tom boy falling down and hurting myself, scraping up my legs and not concerned a bit about how I looked or how I would still have those scars on my legs to this day. Sometimes I wonder why didn't my mother tell me to be careful so that I didn't scar myself up, or why didn't she tell me to put aloe vera or coco butter on the stretch marks I got from growing so fast. But thats all in the past. I am happy that mother did raise me to be a kind spiritual person with standards and values, those things are truly important. I do however now feel that it is nice to be or feel pretty, so I am learning now to take care of my skin and to nourish my body from within. I give myself pedicures and manicures and whatever else I feel contributes to my beauty.

Then there is the question of being a beautiful person on the inside and having enough love for yourself and self-esteem that these other outside things don't matter, or that you can manifest beauty in your world by the way you feel inside and what you focus on mentally. There are really so many things to be discussed or addressed on this subject and I want to try to use this blog as an avenue to do so. I know I am not the first to write about these things, people have been doing it for years, but I won't be the last either. I just want to share my perspective on some of these issues and maybe I can help others with some of my experiences. Also please feel free to give advice or comments on any of the topics posted.

Thank you for reading,
